Southern Bolivia to Uyuni: 4th March 10

Well, we survived the creepy hotel and had an early start today – 5am. Ugg!

We started the day by driving south to the Eduardo Avaroa Fauna reserve. On the way we passed some freaky rocks, very Dali-esque with bizarre shapes.

We then spent some time walking around some Geysers, which looked amazing in the early morning light. The steam was reminiscent of the dry ice used in pop videos, so Matt practiced his Kate Bush Wuthering Heights moves!

Later we reached a hot spring – we’d intended to go in for a dip, and had our swimming suits at the ready, but unfortunately the place was swamped with smelly hippy traveler types, and there were no showers – as we had a long journey ahead of us we thought we’d better give it a miss! It was a beautiful spot though, so we sat and had breakfast watching the hippies splashing around!

After breakfast we started the drive back north and stopped at the Laguna Colorado, home to thousands of flamingos.

Lunch was spent at a beautiful spot – a green glade with streams running through it and grazing llamas, set amongst miles of huge freaky shaped rocks. It was an inspiring sight.

The remainder of the day was spent driving back to Uyuni, where we arrived at 5pm – 12 hours of driving during the day plus another 12 hours on the night bus back to La Paz – bummer!
