Buenos Aires, Argentina: 16th March 10

We spent today looking around the center of Buenos Aires and we’re both very impressed. It’s a beautiful place, full of classical architecture, like a cross between Paris and London but without the French people (yay!). It’s much bigger than we expected – 13 million people, so almost twice the size of London.

We had a look at the cathedral, Plaza de Mayo and the pink presidential palace – the ‘Casa Rosada’, where Evita used to appear to the massive crowds. We also went to check out the water-front which has been rejuvenated with lots of bars and restaurants and a very funky bridge. We even found some time for some clothes shopping!

In the evening we went to a famous restaurant called La Brigada, where we had the biggest steaks ever. Argentina is famous for having the best stakes in the world, as all of their cows are fed on grass instead of grain, making for very lean and tasty meat. I went for the T-Bone and it was actually as big as my plate – and came with…nothing, there wasn’t room, no tatties or vegetables, just pure meat and it was delicious!

After dinner we went to a tango show – it was fascinating to watch, the music was great and some of the dancing couples were very intense – tres sexy! Free champagne was included with the show and a waiter took a shine to us and made sure our glasses were never empty. We had a fab night but were a little worse for wear at the end!

  1. Hi Matt and Paul!
Buenos Aires is such an amazing city that you need to dedicate at least a month to get to know the city and the people.
I stayed in one of the great furnished apartments Buenos Aires with my husband and we enjoyed our time in the city.
    Cheers
