Travelling to Swakopmund: 31st Aug 09
Left Spitzkoppe early to travel to Swakopmund. On the way we visited the local village but not much was going on!
After a couple of hours drive the temperature suddenly plummeted - it had been 30 degrees celcius at 8.15 in the morning, and now at mid-day it was only 14 degrees. The Atlantic oceon has a masive effect on the weather here!
We finally reached the oceon - which means we have finally crossed Africa from East to West - what a landmark! We celebrated by looking at the Cape Cross Seal colony. My God, those seals are vile - they bloomin' STANK to high heaven - I've never smelt so much pee in my life. And they looked like massive furry slugs - and they made a noise like dying sheep - just disgusting - a never to be repeated assault on the senses!
Arrived in Swakopmumd, Namibia's 'adrenalin city' and most popular resort - it's nice to be in a town for a change! We went to the activities office and looked at a DVD of all the things you can do - watch this space for some major Matt and Paul adventures!
