Nairobi to Tanzania – Tue 27th July 09

Left early for an 8 hour drive into Tanzania – saw lots of different landscapes – it was Cloudy on the Kenyan side but the sun came out once we’d crossed the border. Saw our first wild animals on the road side – Zebras, Giraffes and Ostriches!

We passed through the Masai lands – I’d naively thought that the Masai had assimilated into the rest of society and the only traditional ones were dressed up just for tourists. How wrong was I! For about 200 kilometres we drove through the countryside and saw hundreds of Masai in traditional dress and dozens of their traditional villages with the mud / straw huts. We stopped for lunch and a couple of Masai ladies came and stood about ten yards away and just stared at us for an hour – I guess they don’t have telly so we’re the entertainment!

The truck is comfy although 8 hours was quite a long drive! Got to the campsite in the dark about 7pm and had to put our tents up – although one of the assistants did ours so we’re none the wiser – looked a bit complicated – good size though and we could both stretch out. Drank lots of wine in the evening and slept very well!! All of the group are lovely...so far :o)
