Lake Malawi to Luwawa forest lodge: 13th Aug 09

Got up early and spent the morning driving through the hills. On the way we stopped off to pick up provisions – a few of us volunteered to go with Henry to the market rather than get our own stuff at the supermarket. The local fruit and veg market was very busy and colourful and I got some great photos.
We then drove to the forest lodge along some very dodgy and dusty roads. Matt and I upgraded to a lovely room with a view of the gardens and lake – and a bath! Total luxury, haven’t had access to a bath for weeks!
In the early afternoon we went for a walk with Jill – we had a map and the walk was meant to be 7km and fairly easy. Unfortunately we managed to take a wrong turn and got very lost. Jill fell in a hole which was funny, but she did actually hurt herself. Eventually we managed to get back on the right path and back to the lodge – phew, the sun sets so quickly in Africa that I’d started to worry about being lost over night!
Evening was spent around campfire having dinner and then in the lodge bar in front of an open fire – it gets chilly at night in these mountains!
