Hoi An, Vietnam: 3rd – 4th November 2009

After several power cuts last night the typhoon finally disappeared and we went to survey the damage in town. Luckily everything is intact, although the river has swelled considerably and some areas of the town are under several inches of water. The locals don’t seem to mind though, they find it amusing to get in their boats and row themselves over what were streets yesterday! We spent the day looking at the bits of the old town that we hadn’t seen yet. So we visited an old merchant’s house, a Chinese meeting hall, a temple and a small museum. The weather is still fairly minging so we spent a good portion of the day in our hotel reading our books, which was nice.

Next morning we set out for the 5 hour bus journey to Hue, Vietnam’s old royal capital. The scenery on the way was stunning, rolling hills and lakes and lots of beaches. We’re going to be in Hue for a couple of days to explore the old Royal Citadel and the tombs of the Emperors!
