Bangkok – 5th – 6th Oct 09

Matt and I spent the last couple of days mooching around Bangkok, seeing the sights, eating nice food and being hot. Not in the sexy way – it’s sooo bloomin’ humid here!

Highlights have included:
- Visiting the grand palace complex. The temple within in it is truly stunning, I’ve never seen so many shiny things in one place before – it’s just mental. It’s like Walt Disney came to Thailand with Kylie’s diamante and sequin collection and took acid. It’s great! It makes the forbidden city in Beijing look positively drab (although this is nowhere near as big scale).

- We visited the temple of the reclining Buddha – I think it’s one of the biggest in the world- huge.

- Went to the night market at Si Lom. Hmmm, not what we expected. We were offered Ping Pong shows several times. Luckily we’ve seen ‘Priscilla, Queen of the desert’ so knew this wasn’t going to be a table tennis demonstration, and politely declined. We were also offered ‘Bang Bang’ (not a gun) and we noticed lots of the shops purported to have large displays of ...cats. Hmmmm.

Monday was Nicole’s birthday – Nicky we were thinking of you but couldn’t call as our phone wouldn’t work again. I hope you enjoyed your party and our flowers arrived?
